Carrying out a wide range of social-contribution activities in local to international communities

As a group that values coexistence with society, the SHIP Healthcare group contributes to environments in which people can live more happily and comfortably, from local communities to the international sphere.

Development of a Bio Medical Engineer (BME) Training Program

In developing businesses in emerging markets, human resources pose the biggest challenge. Without trained medical engineers (MEs) who can operate and manage medical equipment, it is impossible to achieve the reliable operation of advanced medical devices and equipment in emerging markets. With the cooperation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ), SHIP Healthcare group will contribute to improving local medical systems through the following activities, intended to disseminate advanced Japanese medical technologies:

Project in Bangladesh

Through a consortium formed with Osaka Jikei College, we will provide support for the opening of a medical engineer training schools with the cooperation of Dr. Hossain of our business partner Aichi Hospital Ltd. We will establish a BME department at the school incorporating a Japanese medical-engineering curriculum while also conducting clinical training at a Japanese-style medical facility operated by the SHIP Healthcare group. Given that progress in medical equipment is being made in Bangladesh, mainly at private hospitals, there is a shortage of human resources to operate this equipment. We support human resource development through these and other activities.

Project in Myanmar

The SHIP Healthcare group has conducted market research in Myanmar since 2012. The shortage of medical personnel is serious problem in this market. In particular, the absence of MEs in the country is an obstacle to the dissemination of medical equipment produced in Japan. We contribute to the training of medical personnel in Myanmar by teaching the importance of medical equipment management and through educational activities such as official qualification programs, as well as support for the development of a school for medical engineers.

Contributing to society as a group

SHIP Healthcare group’s businesses in the fields of Medicine, Health, Welfare, Nursing care, and Services are closely linked to people’s lives. As a Group active in such fields, we already make proactive efforts to contribute to society. In the Dispensing Pharmacy Business, Group pharmacies engage in activities, including activities to raise awareness on proper use of medicines, participating in discussions on medicine and health, and raising awareness on prevention of drug abuse. In our fifth field, the Healthcare Service Business, we are engaged in training of medical staff overseas. We also engage in volunteer activities such as cleanup activities to strengthen our engagement with local communities. At the same time, we support the self-realization of our employees, who are important community stakeholders, by enhancing training and human resource systems and creating comfortable working environments.
